What the shots on target table tells you

A shot on target is an effort that reaches the goalkeeper or goes in. It is a better guide to threat than total shots, because it leaves out the blocked and wayward ones.

Not every shot on target is a good chance. A weak effort straight at the goalkeeper counts the same as a curling drive into the corner, so goals, xG and per 90 rates fill in the picture.

Frontline players with different minutes are easier to compare on the per 90 column, which appears once a player has 180 minutes.
