What the duels won table tells you
A duel is a one on one contest for the ball, on the ground or in the air, and this table counts the ones a player has won. It gathers tackles, aerial contests and battles for loose balls into a single number.
It favours players who are always in the contest: strikers who hold the ball up, centre backs who attack headers and midfielders who press. The count rewards volume, so a player who wins most of a few duels can look quieter than one who wins half of many.
Per 90 puts players with different minutes on the same footing once they have 180 minutes.
